Northrop Grumman announced today its team for securing U.S. borders as part its bid for the Department of Homeland Security Secure Border Initiative Net (SBInet).
The list reads like a who’s who of cutting edge technology providers and designers, including Anteon International, SRA International, BearingPoint, L-3 Communications, L. Robert Kimball & Associates, HNTB Corporation and General Dynamics. To a lesser extent, the company says that it will include EMC Corporation, ESRI, Hughes Network Systems, Motorola, Sprint/Nextel, Oracle Corporation, Identix and Nortel.
Northrop Grumman is considered by man to be one of the companies in the top of the running for the SBInet job, and the company’s defense integration business has been a common provider for large-scale government projects.
«Together with our industry partners, we can deliver a comprehensive solution, working closely with the government to enable stronger border security, deter illegal border crossings, and ultimately help achieve DHS’s goal of operational control of our nation’s borders,» said Wood Parker, president of Northrop Grumman Information Technology’s Intelligence Group, in announcing the bid partners.
The Secure Border Initiative has gained a great deal of attention, especially as porous borders have drawn criticism concerning the possibility of weak borders as a by-way for terrorism, and as a chief concern about the flood of illegal immigrants into the U.S. looking for work.
The DHS contract, which would be a $2 billion, six-year program that fully integrates border security, will likely be decided upon by September of this year.
